Hybrid Lash Lift Systems: What Happens When TGA or ETG Is Added to Cysteamine?

Hybrid Lash Lift Systems: What Happens When TGA or ETG Is Added to Cysteamine?

“Hybrid” = cysteamine + TGA or ETG, added to make cysteamine process faster.

Sounds like an upgrade.

But here’s what matters:

Once TGA or ETG is added, you’re working with thioglycolate chemistry again.

The cysteamine in the formula doesn’t cancel that out.

And if you’ve worked with thioglycolate before, you probably already know why that matters.

Remember Working With Thioglycolate?

I trained professionals with five different thioglycolate brands for more than a decade.

And there was one rule we all knew:

STEP 1 NEVER TOUCHES THE TIPS.

Not during application.

Not even during removal.

We were typically taught to apply Step 1 approximately halfway to three-quarters up the lash because thioglycolate migrates beyond the point of application.

And every lash and brow is different.

Apply too low and you may not get the lift you need.

Apply too high and the product can migrate farther than you intended.

And timing?

There is no wiggle room.

Fifteen or 30 seconds can matter. Reduction can go beyond the point where the hair can successfully reform.

We remember being afraid of overprocessing.

But more importantly, we remember seeing that client come back for her third or fourth lash lift, looking at her lashes and cringing inside.

Should we even give her another lash lift?

No matter the home care, we saw what repeated services could do. Sometimes the lashes were compromised immediately. Sometimes it happened over time.

And when you’re building a business around clients returning every six to eight weeks, that matters.

A beautiful lift today isn’t enough.

You need beautiful lashes to work with when she comes back.

Then Came Cysteamine

And suddenly, artists had something very different.

Cysteamine is gentler. And it gives you control.

Step 1 can be applied from the base all the way through the tips of the lashes.

It doesn’t migrate beyond the point of application. It works where you put it.

And you have more working time.

With Lift JuJu®, you’re not panicking because Step 1 stayed on one eye 15 seconds, 30 seconds or even a minute longer while you removed the other.

You’re not working with that constant fear that a few extra seconds will suddenly push the hair into overprocessing.

With Lift JuJu®, overcurl is what we’re watching for—not chemical overprocessing.

Base to tip.
More time.
No migration.
Less stress.
More control.

That was the beauty of cysteamine.

Then Cysteamine Was Called “Too Slow”

Rather than learning how to work with cysteamine and its working window, some formulations began adding TGA or ETG to make it process faster.

And now there’s a name for it:

HYBRID.

But adding thioglycolate doesn’t simply give you faster cysteamine.

It brings the way you have to manage thioglycolate back into the service.

Now we’re talking about when Step 1 can touch the tips.

How long can it stay there?

When do you remove it from the tips while the rest of the lash continues processing?

Do you remove it with a moist cotton swab?

Do you cleanse?

Do you pH balance?

Do you apply something conditioning to the tips while the rest of the lash continues processing?

That’s a lot of song and dance in the name of “faster.”

And here’s what I want artists to understand:

That’s not cysteamine becoming more convenient. That’s managing the thioglycolate that was added to it.

Why I Chose Cysteamine

After more than a decade of working with thioglycolate systems, the long-term integrity of the hair became a dealbreaker for me.

I didn’t want to keep cycling through thioglycolate brands looking for another way to solve the same problem.

In fact, if I couldn’t find another way, I was prepared to stop offering lash lifts and brow laminations altogether.

That’s why I had my own cysteamine system formulated.

I wasn’t trying to find a way to put thioglycolate back in.

I wanted cysteamine.

Because I wasn’t only thinking about the lift I could create today.

I was thinking about that client coming back six to eight weeks later—and the lashes or brows I’d have to work with when she did.

The Working Time Is Part of the Benefit

With Lift JuJu®, my average Step 1 processing time is around nine minutes.

Some resistant lashes and brows need longer.

If the hair genuinely needs additional processing, remove the solution, assess the hair and apply fresh product.

That’s learning how to work with cysteamine rather than trying to make cysteamine behave like thioglycolate.

The working window isn’t something I consider a problem that needs to be fixed. It’s one of the reasons I wanted cysteamine in the first place.

Before “Hybrid” Automatically Sounds Like an Upgrade…

Turn the package around.

Look at Step 1.

Cysteamine only?

Or:

Cysteamine + TGA/ETG?

Because “hybrid” isn’t a benefit. It’s a description.

The ingredients tell you what you’re actually working with.

So before faster becomes the goal, remember why cysteamine mattered in the first place.

And don’t just think about the lashes you’re lifting today.

Think about the lashes you want your client to bring back to you six or eight weeks from now.

Lift JuJu® Step 1: Cysteamine. No TGA. No ETG.
